Calendar Updated - Summer Tournaments

January 21st, 2007

The calendar has been updated to include the weekends of the three playoff games in our league. The fixtures themselves can’t be finalised until it’s known who the top 4 sides will be - only Bristol City are guaranteed qualifiers for the first division and only us and Bristol Uni in the second division. But if you can keep those weekends free that’d be super!

Cardiff in Stockholm

Also, I’ve added a list of tournaments that we might want to enter. For the British ones there’s no hurry about deciding, but if we want to go abroad for a tournament this summer (like we did to Stockholm last year) we should choose early to allow cheap flights and accomodation. It’s not an exhaustive list and any suggestions are welcome.

Exeter Away, 1sts

January 14th, 2007

12-14 Chris Gubby (5), Remco Broekhuis (2), Sian Hunt (2), Angharad Morgan (1), Josh Cockburn (1), Rachel Knight (1), Helen Gubby, Joey Niblett, Lee O’Sullivan

This season is beginning to show some strange parallels with the previous one. Again Dragons started well with good results against fancied teams Bristol City and Cardiff City, again they’ve had a mid-season slump dropping points at home to Bristol Uni and away to Exeter. We can only hope that the similarities continue with a run of victories from now on to retain the title. (more…)

Exeter Away, 2nds

January 14th, 2007

13-5 Joey Niblett (4), Josh Cockburn (4), Chris Gubby (2), Rachel Knight (2), Caroline Lowdon (1), Amy Shillabeer, Gareth Thomas, Gwen Jones, Sian Hunt

After three successive losses (albeit that one was a friendly and one we won on forfeit) the Dragons second team were keen to get back to winning ways. A couple of late withdrawals combined with the long trek to Devon and the hectic social life of our players meant that they would have to do so with just 7 players though - Josh handed the short straw of having to take on two Exeter boys on his own. Welsh Korfball recognised by IKF

January 2nd, 2007

On Thursday 28th of December, while the rest of us were trying to recover from our christmas gluttony, the International Korfball Federation formally admitted the Welsh Korfball Association, which became the 50th country to be affiliated. As well as being a clear indication of the progress made by korfball in Wales over the last few years, this also has a couple of practical benefits for Cardiff Dragons.  (more…)

Bristol Uni Home, 1sts

December 17th, 2006

9-11, Chris Gubby (2), Sian Hunt (2), Helen Gubby (1), Joey Niblett (1), Lee O’Sullivan (1), Rachel Knight (1), Remco Broekhuis (1), Caroline Lowdon

Second in the table, and with their only defeat having come by a single goal, we knew the Bristol Badgers would provide tough opposition – even before they turned up with a National League player in tow. He formed part of a very strong quartet of boys, and Dragons were clearly not going to be able to rely on the usual hatful of goals from their own guys. (more…)

Bristol Uni Home, 2nds

December 17th, 2006

9-19 Josh Cockburn (5), Gareth Thomas (2), Steve Fung (1), Joey Niblett (1), Chrissy Rowlatt, Gwen Jones, Hannah Blackmore, Kate Jones, Chris Gubby

Bristol Uni brought along a very strong second team featuring their two strongest players from last years first team, as well as plenty of athleticism in the rest of the side, and the match was played at a breathless pace. Dragons were very short of experience in their girls, with Amy, Donna and Julie unavailable and Caroline promoted to the firsts. However, they also had plenty of pace and attacking potential in their guys. (more…)

Motivating Mates

December 12th, 2006

Motivating MatesSian has signed us up to appear on Motivating Mates and our club will be listed in there soon. It should be a good way of attracting more people to the site - the site is designed for people who want to try something new by “buddying up” with their friends to try out a new sport or activity. They can search by location and activity, so our site will eventually be listed under Wales and Korfball.

We’re also listed on their index so hopefully we’ll get some more site hits too.

In other site news, I’ve added some website tracking utilities so we should be able to find out more about who visits the site.

Bowling Social

December 11th, 2006

Bowling! We all went down to the Hollywood Bay for some 10 pin bowling (or 9 pin in Hannah’s case), except Sian, who decided to go to Newport Road instead.

The first games were won by Gareth and Taff respectively, the second by Julie and Joey. Magnus cheated disgracefully - but nonetheless congratulations from the club to him and Anna, who are expecting their first child. Josh had a less successful evening, finishing last both times and then winning the world record for the most poorly worded anecdote.

Taff and Joey then went mano a mano on the dance machine. We hope to have video footage of this on the website soon, but until then ask Caroline if you want to see it (Chris, she’s tall, light-brown hair, someone should be able to point her out to you).

All good fun, and thanks to Helen for organising.
