The Dragons first team made it’s debut in the brand new Welsh League at Howells on Tuesday night, notching an opening 19-6 win against a Cardiff City reserve side who are still deciding on a team name! This years team has a slightly different look to it, with Amy Shillabeer promoted from the second team, Dave Thomas returning from injury and Jack McNamara transferred in from the University. The Dragons also gave league debuts to Alison Eaves and Julia Harnett, while Lee, Sian , Rachel, Joey and Remco remained from last year’s side.

Cardiff Uni 2 Away, 2nds

November 7th, 2007

7-4 James Frost (2), Josh Cockburn (2), Dave Schofield (1), Rachel Knight (1), Steve Vaughan (1), Chrissy Rowlatt, Emily Tuttiett, Julie Saunders, Liz Pearson, Magnus Dons, Pete Obee.

The first game of the new season, and the first ever game in the new Welsh league, with 4 Dragons players making their debut. Dragons got off to a slow start as the University side made plenty of interceptions, and denied them any easy chances. Some long shots didn’t miss by much, particularly from Julie who was agonisingly close to getting her first league goals for us. At the other end the Dragons defence was strong, but inevitably chances were created and but for a couple of missed penalties the students could have been well clear by half-time. (more…)

No training on the 29th October

October 24th, 2007

Because Cardiff High is closed for half-term, we’ll be training at the Slug and Lettuce in town from 7 pm, rather than in a sports hall as usual. Training resumes as normal on the 5th November.

Cardiff Freshers Tournament

October 21st, 2007

Dragons entered 2 teams into Cardiff University’s Freshers Tournament, with the aim of giving our new players a taste of what a proper match looks like. We were successful at this at least with Alison, Emily, Helena, Julia, Liz, Nathalie all playing their first ever games, and Steve his first match for Dragons. All did well, with several people managing to score their debut goals. Our teams finished 6th and 7th overall, out of 16, suffering through missing too many shots, despite some excellent defending.

Indoor Training Restarts

September 25th, 2007

Indoor traing began on Monday 24th September, 7-9, at our new home of Cardiff High School in Cyncoed. If you’re not sure how to get there, google map is here. The sports hall is at the back of the campus, next to the playing fields.

We need to agree on a pub to go to after sessions too. Any suggestions?

Dragons on the Telly

August 19th, 2007

Clips from the BBC’s footage of our training session with City, and introduction to the basics of korfball are up on the BBC site.

Highlights include Sian’s interview, Josh and James looking bemused as they have to play against Mike Bushell while he breaks all the rules, a cunning piece of creative editing at the start to make it look like we’re scoring a long shot, and Helen’s foul for the penalty at the end.

Training in August

August 1st, 2007

Starting on August 6th, we’re going to be having free, fairly informal sessions in Llandaff fields, as near as we can to the car park opposite the Halfway pub. Those who were around last summer, this is where we played touch rugby/ultimate frisbee, those who weren’t, look for the korfball posts!

These are going to be from 7.30-8.30, followed by a drink at the Halfway. This isn’t compulsory, but it is strongly encouraged so that we all get to know any newer people.

Indoor training will resume towards the end of September at our new venue at Cardiff High School in Cyncoed. More details about that closer to the time.
