Cardiff Uni 3 away, 2nds

8-4, Gareth Thomas (3), Julia Harnett (2), Dave Schofield (1), Josh Cockburn (1), Magnus Dons (1), Alison Eaves, Chrissy Rowlatt, Hannah Blackmore, Liz Pearson, Pete Obee.

After their narrow defeat to the Cane Toads, this was a vital game for the seconds if they want to finish in the top 4 after the first phase of the season.

The first half was sluggish as Julia, Liz, Pete and Josh defended well, spending 25 minutes in defence without conceeding a goal, but Cardiff Uni defended well at the other end, cutting out feeds and winning a lot of loose ball. Gareth broke the deadlock with 2 running in shots, the latter of which was spectacularly finished from past the basket. Almost immediately after the changeover his marker gained revenge though with a long-range shot. Josh re-established the 2 goal margin after a neat side-feed from Pete.

At half-time, Chrissy replaced Hannah and Dave came on for Josh. Uni quickly narrowed the gap with a running-in shot before an exchange of penalties made it 4-3.  Dragons newer players were now beinning to display a good understanding of when to make their runs and after Liz narrowly missed scoring, Julia got her first league goal.  Gareth then completed his hat-trick of running-in shots and although uni scored next Dave and Julia scored from short range as Dragons finished strongly.
