Cardiff Uni 1 away, 2nds, friendly
8-13 Alison Eaves (2), Josh Cockburn (2), Julie Saunders (2), Hannah James (1), James Frost (1), Dave Schofield, Helena Nelson, Julia Harnett, Steve Vaughan. (10-0 forfeit)
With the BUSA Southerns looming, the Uni team decided to forfeit the match by choosing to play Jack McNamara (from Dragons) and Jack Newman (from the Cardiff City Chiefs) who are part of the BUSA squad but ineligible for league games. Safe in the knowledge of a 10-0 forfeit victory a friendly was played. Hannah James made her debut, playing the first half before being replaced by another debutante - Helena Nelson.
The students started better, with Jack McNamara managing to get on the wrong side of James for a finish from under the post. Josh equalised with a runner from Steve’s feed. This brought the dangerous attacking combination of Sophie and Jen into attack for Cardiff Uni and Dragons couldn’t handle them, first conceeding a penalty and then a running-in shot. It was soon 4-1 as Jack scored from an immediate running in shot, but Julie scored from collect. This however set a pattern of Uni moving gradually further ahead with Dragons pegging them back occasionally without significantly closing the gap. Alison scored from a running in shot and Steve’s interception set-up Hannah for a goal with her first ever shot in a game, but goals kept dropping at the other end.
In the second half Dragons got another 4, Alison scoring from short range, Josh and James from long and Julie direct from a restart. Cardiff Uni were never under real pressure though and ran out 13-8 winners.
