A friendly against Cardiff City with both teams aiming to give some of their less experienced players a run out took place last night at Whitchurch. City were the stronger team throughout, showing greater organisation and confidence with passing and shooting, but the Dragons fought hard and competed well in the second half in particular.
Highlights were Alex’s ability to consistently beat her player, which will surely lead to plenty of goals in other games, Chrissy winning a penalty for Gareth to score (despite being made to retake it), Caroline scoring with just about her only shot and a great pass from defence from Gareth which led to Josh being awarded a penalty.
It’s always a little disappointing to lose, but the Dragons beginners can take heart from the fact that all of them are improving rapidly, and were able (in the second half anyway) to match a City team which had a slight experience advantage.
Next stop, some goals for our new girls!
