Bristol City Away, 2nds

10-9 Dave Thomas (4), Amy Shillabeer (2), Gwen Jones (2), Magnus Dons (1), Joey Niblett (1), Donna Waitt, James Frost, Julie Saunders, Josh Cockburn

In the second team game, Cardiff Dragons got off to a confident start.  As Bristol City set up the first attack, the Welsh side held a strong defence.  After a decisive interception by Joey and some quick passing, Gwenno opened the scoring with a running in shot.

Goal of the match was Dave’s long shot from the halfway line to put the Welsh team into a 1-4 lead.  Some good defence by James denied Bristol a chance to score, leading to Bristol calling a hasty time out.

The second half got off to a slow start, until Bristol City’s Kevin Allen dropped a long shot to bring the score to 4-6.  After another long shot, Bristol City had almost caught up with Cardiff’s lead, but after a quick interception by Julie Saunders, Magnus’s long shot set a two-goal gap.  The final whistle blew at a close 10-9 to Cardiff City.

In the other EKL game featuring Welsh sides, a strong defensive performance by Cardiff City combined with early season rustiness from Cardiff University saw the students beaten 11-0 at home.
